Bayonne bonds for roadway repaving across the city

The resurfacing project is also supported by an $800k grant from the state

A number of Bayonne streets are scheduled to be repaved as part of a $2.5 million project.

The Bayonne City Council has adopted an ordinance to bond approximately $1.7 million toward the repaving of a number of roads. The council first introduced the ordinance on Dec. 15, and adopted the ordinance unanimously at its Jan. 19 meeting.

The streets included in the repaving are as follows: West 4th Street from Kennedy Boulevard to Avenue C; West 9th Street from Avenue A to Kennedy Boulevard and from Avenue C to Broadway; West 11th Street from Avenue A to Kennedy Boulevard; East 18th Street from Broadway to Avenue E; West 25th Street from Kennedy Boulevard to Avenue C; West 38th Street from Avenue C to Broadway; West 39th Street from Avenue C to Broadway; Avenue A from the railroad crossing near North Street to West 17th Street and from West 27th Street to Kennedy Boulevard; and Prospect Avenue from East 21 Street to East 25th Street.

According to the ordinance, the improvement will include, as applicable, the excavation, milling, paving, reconstruction and boxing out and resurfacing or full depth pavement replacement, and the sealing of pavement cracks.

Associated improvements include storm and sanitary sewer structure improvements, resetting utility castings, repairing and/or installation of curbs, sidewalks and driveway aprons, installation of curb ramps in compliance with ADA, drainage work, landscaping and aesthetic improvements; and also including all engineering and design work, surveying, construction planning, preparation of plans and specifications, permits, bid documents, construction, inspection and contract administration and all work, materials, labor and appurtenances necessary.

While the ordinance appropriates $2.5 million toward the repaving, the council is only bonding for $1,697,557. The bonds will be supplemented by a $802,443 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
