Bayonne firefighters briskly best basement blaze

Nine residents were temporarily displaced during the incident

The Bayonne Fire Department made quick work of a basement fire on Jan. 27, according to Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

At 8:27 a.m., the BFD was dispatched to a report of a fire at 133 West 56th Street. Arriving firefighters found a smoke condition and a small fire in the basement.

One hose line was used to extinguish the fire and prevent the fire from extending within the building, Weaver said. The fire was placed under control less than twenty minutes later at 8:46 a.m. and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was determined as accidental in nature by a fire investigator.

Nine residents were temporarily displaced during the incident and were allowed to return to their residences by the Bayonne Building Department.

“The quick response of our firefighters stopped the fire from spreading and prevented further damage to the building, which enabled our residents to return to their homes,” Weaver said.
