Jacqueline Weimmer will run for Bayonne’s Second Ward council seat in the upcoming May 10 municipal election alongside Mayor James Davis.

‘Always helping people’
Weimmer, born and raised in Bayonne, graduated from Lincoln Community School and Holy Family Academy before entering the workforce as a paralegal at a New York law firm. She continued to advance her career in the legal and finance fields before eventually being appointed as National Director of Special Needs Solutions at Comerica Bank.
In her position, Weimmer helps people with disabilities and their families in all aspects of benefits eligibility and financial and life planning. She also volunteers her time as a court-appointed advocate for children in the foster care system through Hudson County CASA, helping them to confront the challenges that come with placement in a new home and to deal with past traumas.
“Throughout my life I’ve always tried to do whatever I could to help people, from making sure that families whose members have varying abilities get the help they need to prosper in all aspects of their daily life, to helping seniors navigate the world of Social Security and Medicare benefits, to advocating for foster children and much more,” said Weimmer.
“Running for City Council is the best way for me to further my service to the community, and I’m ecstatic to join a team led by Mayor Davis, whose leadership has been so critical in moving our community forward. I would also like to commend Councilman Sal Gullace for his dedication to the Second Ward and wish him the best in the future, and I know that he will continue to serve our community in new ways.”
Weimmer in, Gullace out
The announcement of Weimmer comes after Davis told Gullace in late January that he would not be on his council slate in the upcoming May 10 municipal election, despite Gullace having successfully run with Davis in 2014 and 2018. Prior to this, it had been alleged that Davis would drop Gullace from his 2022 ticket, despite Davis saying otherwise.
However, things have changed since campaign season is in full swing, and on Feb. 2, Gullace announced he would not seek re-election. After he was booted off the slate, Gullace had said that Weimmer would be replacing him, which has now come to fruition.
Weimmer is the fourth announced member of the Team Davis slate, following First Ward City Councilman Neil Carroll, Third Ward City Councilman Gary La Pelusa and City Councilman At-Large Juan Perez. Davis said he will unveil the final member of his slate as well as endorsements and other announcements in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Davis faces a challenge in the mayoral contest by City Council President Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski, who has yet to name announce a council slate. Former Bayonne Board of Education Trustee Michael Alonso is also running for mayor but has not yet announced any ticket either.
Running independently of council slates for City Councilmember At-Large seats are Bayonne Board of Education Trustee Denis Wilbeck and Bayonne businesswoman Carissa Lintao.
