Hoboken launches second survey for municipal complex proposal

The city of Hoboken launched a second online survey to gather public feedback on the four alternative designs for the proposed municipal complex. The survey can be found at and will be available until April 19 at 8 p.m.

North Bergen students hear safety presentation

Lincoln School students met with officers from the North Bergen Police Department on Monday, Apr. 4 as part of the township’s celebration of Local Government Week. Over 100 kids attended a presentation in the gym, where officers explained safety tips for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as provided a quick bike demo.

Dozens of kids volunteered their knowledge of traffic and safety tips, with the students highly engaged in the interactive presentation and special assembly. The event ended with the police handing out giveaways before the students headed back to their classrooms.

WNY offers new yoga program

West New York has announced that free registrations for its Division of Recreation’s new yoga program are now being accepted. Available to all WNYers, ages 4 and up beginning Monday, May 2, with one-hour sessions per age group.

On Mondays at the 56th St Gazebo “Bird House” on Boulevard East, yoga for ages 8 and 9 will run from 5 to 6 p.m., and for 10 and 11 year-olds from 6 to 7 On Tuesdays, yoga for ages 12 to 17 will run from 5 to 6 p.m., and for those 18 years old and up from 6 to 7 p.m.

On Saturdays at Centennial Soccer Field on the waterfront, “Mommy and Me” yoga for ages 4 and 5 will run from 9 to 10 a.m., and ages 6 and 7 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Original birth certificate or valid US Passport and two recently mailed proofs of WNY residency received within the past 30 days, no junk mail. Adults can present a valid State ID along with the proofs of residency.

North Bergen students distribute reusable bags

Nine environmentally-conscious students from North Bergen High School distributed reusable bags at Food Bazaar, 1425 Kennedy Boulevard on April 6 as part of Local Government Week to promote ecological awareness and New Jersey’s upcoming ban on plastic bags.

The students also took a trip to visit the Woodcliff Water Treatment Plant on River Road in North Bergen for a more in-depth lesson on wastewater management. MUA Executive Director Frank Pestana, Plant Supervisor Cesar Baez, Assistant Supervisor Michael Revello, and Director of Operations and Maintenance Carlos Torres explained how the plant works to efficiently cleanse stormwater that is gathered from the storm drains.

The educational initiative with the students was coordinated with the active participation of AP Environmental Science Teacher Jennifer Checchio and North Bergen High School Science Teacher and Environmental Coordinator Dana Hojnowski.
