
Hoboken hosting 2022 farmers’ markets
The city of Hoboken will be hosting three farmers’ markets that will expand access to fresh produce from local and regional vendors.
The season will begin with the Uptown Farmers’ Market, which will take place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. under the 14th Street Viaduct between Grand and Adams Streets and will run until mid-December.
The Hoboken Farmers’ Market or Church Square Park Farmers’ Market will return on June 7 at Garden Street at Church Square Park between Fourth Street and Fifth Street every Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m.
The Southwest Park Farmers’ Market will take place every Thursday starting on June 9 from 2 to 8 p.m. on the north side of Observer Highway between Jackson Street and Harrison Street.
Both the Church Square Park Farmers’ Market and Southwest Park Farmers’ Market will end in mid-November.
Palisades Medical Center holds Wellness Fair
Palisades Medical Center collaborated with the North Bergen Free Public Library to bring a health and wellness fair to the Guttenberg Resource Center on Saturday, April 30. “Spring into Health” offered a free, full-service health clinic for residents and visitors.
Free screenings were available on site for blood pressure, diabetes, and more, with appointments available for additional in-depth screenings. Representatives provided handouts and information on numerous topics including nutritional services, sleep assessment, physical rehabilitation, smoking cessation, cancer screenings (lung, breast, prostate), and much more.
Hoboken students to participate in Dance & Democracy Project
Hoboken Middle and High School students will be participating in the Dance & Democracy Project, where they will work with Nimbus Dance company members to focus on ways to explore, understand, practice and embody components of democracy through creative dance.
The project has two cohorts, one middle and high school, whom will create an original piece and will be performed on June 3 at the Hoboken High School auditorium at 7 p.m.. The performance will take place after free dance workshops for the entire community that will take place from 5 to 6 p.m..
Free nutrition classes at Secaucus library
The Secaucus Public Library will be holding free nutrition classes every Tuesday in June and July from 6 to 7 p.m. at 1379 Paterson Plank Road. Register online at secaucuslibrary.org.
North Bergen honors nurses and teachers
Teacher Appreciation Day was on May 3, with Teacher Appreciation Week from May 2 through May 6. Sacco and the Township Commissioners thanked dedicated teachers in North Bergen and all across the country for always going above and beyond to help shape all childrens’ futures.
Jersey City unveils retractable roof over Pershing Field pool
Jersey City unveiled a new retractable roof at Pershing Field Pool. The city said that the new glass ceiling will allow natural sunlight to shine year-round over the 25-meter, 6-lane pool, and also allows for “substantial ventilation for better air quality”.
North Bergen hires new police officer
Jennifer Vasquez, a 20-year resident of North Bergen, became the latest member of the police department on May 4. Vasquez, a North Bergen High School Alumni, graduated from Kean University and was previously a 9-1-1 communications officer.
