The meaning of Memorial Day

Dear Editor:

I have to state that my most sacred holidays in the year, in addition to those of a religious nature are Memorial Day, Veterans Day and July 4th as each of these days recognizes the sacrifices, many times the supreme sacrifices of our men and women in the armed forces of the United States, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.

It is with unpardonable pride that I pray, reflect and honor those service persons from the City of Bayonne, County of Hudson, State of New Jersey and all in our great country who have served and in many cases given their lives for all of us.

I ask that all of us join together, side by side, shoulder to shoulder with our heads up high and pay tribute to those who serve and who have served. When we see a person in uniform representing one of our armed forces, we need to address them with respect and thank them for their service. It is only due to their efforts that we as Americans can walk proud with freedom, justice and in the American Way.

God Bless our veterans, God Bless the City of Bayonne and most certainly God Bless the United States of America.
