One-alarm fire in Bayonne displaces five residents

There were no injuries at the fire on Silver Street

A one-alarm fire on May 25 has displaced multiple residents, according to Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

The Bayonne Fire Department were dispatched at 6:29 p.m. on a report of smoke from a house at 52 Silver Street. Arriving firefighters found smoke and fire in the front of a two-story, two-family home.

Firefighters used two hand lines to extinguish the blaze, which was declared under control at 6:47 p.m. No injuries were reported, and a fire investigation has determined the cause to be accidental in nature.

A total of five people have been displaced and are under the care of Bayonne OEM and the Red Cross.

“Our firefighters responded quickly and took immediate action to prevent this fire from spreading further into the structure, or from extending to neighboring homes, which are just feet apart,” Weaver said.

And on May 27, the BFD put out a minor fire on the roof of the Korpi Ice Rink at Bayonne High School at 669 Avenue C.
