Dear Editor:
I recently watched the demolition and replacement of the four corners of an intersection along fourth street in Bayonne. What a waste of taxpayer dollars! The previous corners had sloping walks, non-skid mats and were fully ADA compliant. The new corners changed nothing. They even used the same brand of non-skid mats that were previously in place. Two of the four corners were just replaced three or four years ago.
Who, if anyone, in City Hall is responsible for oversight of this project? Or, are they just sitting in their offices, doing nothing, and collecting their taxpayer funded salaries? Whether it’s city, state, or federally funded shouldn’t matter if you’re wasting taxpayer money. If someone was out here checking, they would have seen that probably 30 to 40 percent of the corners, along all of 4th street, didn’t need replacing.
The lack of responsibility by our elected officials in wasting taxpayers’ funds is appalling…
