9-year-old saved from drowning at Bayonne municipal pool

The young child was pulled from the deep end and resuscitated by bystanders

A 9-year-old boy was saved from drowning at Bayonne’s G. Thomas DiDomenico Municipal Pool at 16th Street Park on July 17, according to Captain Eric Amato of the Bayonne Police Department.

Police said the child had swam into deep end of the municipal pool and became under distress around approximately 4 p.m.

Another swimmer witnessed the child struggling and was able to pull him out of the water.

According to authorities, another person at the pool performed CPR on the boy and revived him.

The Bayonne Police Department, the Bayonne Fire Department, EMS personnel, McCabe Ambulance responded to the scene in full force.

The boy was conscious and responsive when first responders arrived, and was subsequently transported to Bayonne Hospital as a precaution, police said.

Tragedy was avoided just one month after 16-year-old Bayonne High School junior Jack Jiang and his 19-year-old brother Chu Ming Zheng, a recent graduate from the school, drowned in the Lincoln Community School pool.
