Summer Sounds By the Bay continues

The 2022 Summer Sounds By the Bay concert series continued with the Winslow Eagles Tribute Band on July 20. The band celebrates an iconic American band, The Eagles, recreating some of their live performance moments and signature sounds from the ’70s.

Next is Long Live the Beatles on July 27 at 7 p.m., weather permitting. The longest running Beatles show in the country consists of an all-live musical event featuring impersonations of the band during 1962 to 1970.

After that is AM Gold Yacht Rock on August 3, a New York City-based tribute band that performs adult-contemporary hit songs from the late ’70s through the mid ’80s referred to as “Yacht Rock” including: Hall & Oates, Steely Dan, Huey Lewis, Christopher Cross, Lionel Richie and more.

Upcoming movies at the library

The Bayonne Free Public Library will present two films on Wednesday, August 3, as part of its ongoing summer movie series. Both films will be shown in the O’Connor Gallery on the library’s second floor at 31st Street and Avenue C.

At 1 p.m., the library will screen Memory, an action thriller. The plot revolves around an aging hitman who has early onset dementia. He must go on the run after declining a contract killing of a young girl. The film stars Liam Neeson, Guy Pearce, Monica Bellucci, Taj Atwal, Ray Fearon, and Harold Torres. This film is rated R and has a running time of 1 hour and 54 minutes. No children will be admitted to this film, due to the R rating.

At 6:30 p.m. on August 3, the library will present Encanto, a computer- animated musical fantasy comedy. This movie tells the story of a multi-
generational Colombian family that receives magical gifts from a miracle that helps them serve their community. The film features the voices of Stephanie Beatriz, Maria Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Mauro Castillo, and Jessica Darrow, among others. This movie is rated PG and has a running time of 1 hour and 42 minutes.

Boy saved from drowning at municipal pool

A 9-year-old boy was saved from drowning at Bayonne’s G. Thomas DiDomenico Municipal Pool at 16th Street Park on July 17, according to Captain Eric Amato of the Bayonne Police Department. Police said the child had swam into deep end of the municipal pool and became under distress around approximately 4 p.m.

Another swimmer witnessed the child struggling and was able to pull him out of the water. According to authorities, another person at the pool performed CPR on the boy and revived him.

Man shot multiple times near Gorman Field in Bayonne

A man was shot multiple times in Bayonne on July 17 at approximately 3:12 a.m., according to the Bayonne Police Department. Officers responded to the area of Gorman Field on 1st Street on a report of a man down, police said.

Upon arrival, Bayonne police officers encountered a 36-year-old Bayonne man who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to both arms and both legs. According to authorities, the man was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Bayonne man pleads guilty to shooting Jersey City man in 2020

A Bayonne man has pleaded guilty in relation to a shooting in Jersey City, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. On Thursday, July 21, Bernard Wilson, a 29-year-old of Bayonne, pleaded guilty for his role in the 2020 shooting death of Abimael Fuentes, a 38-year-old of Jersey City, on Brinkerhoff Street.

Financial agreements ‘die a natural death’ before Bayonne council

A number of financial agreements that have been on the Bayonne City Council’s agenda for months were finally voted on in June. The council had previously postponed the financial agreement ordinances which support residential and other redevelopment projects since February.
