Bayonne Police have arrested two out-of-towners after beating up a man and stealing his PlayStation 5, according to Captain Eric Amato.
Police arrested Nizere Mingo, a 19-year-old man of Willingboro, and a 15-year-old of Jersey City known as Juvenile 1 on charges including Robbery and Obstructing a Governmental Function.
Mingo and Juvenile 1 were taken into custody at 10:54 p.m. from the area of 52nd Street on August 5. According to Amato, officers responded to the area of Goldsborough Drive on a report of a robbery.
According to the 24-year-old male victim, he arranged for the sale of his PlayStation 5 to a male, later identified as Mingo, via a social media site. Amato said the parties agreed to meet at the 34th Street Lightrail Station to complete the sale.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., the meet occurred. During that time, the victim, Mingo, and Juvenile 1 began negotiating a price. After a price could not be agreed upon, the victim canceled the potential sale and proceeded to walk back to his vehicle, Amato said.
As he was walking, he was attacked from behind by Mingo and Juvenile 1 and was subjected to a barrage of punches to the head, face, and body. During the attack, the victim became disoriented for a brief period of time but, upon recovering, observed Mingo and Juvenile 1 fleeing with his PlayStation 5 in their possession, according to Amato.
Hours later, officers were alerted that the suspects had been observed in the area of 51st Street and Avenue E and a search of that area ensued. Amato said that while in the area, officers located the two suspects who led the officers on a brief foot chase.
Both actors were ultimately apprehended in the area of 52nd Street and the on-scene investigation led to them being positively identified as the actors. The PlayStation was discovered abandoned in front of a residence on East 51st Street.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his head, left wrist, and right knee.
