Hudson County announces first annual ‘Strides for Safety 5K’

Those interested can join 'the race against gun violence' in September

Local runners and walkers are encouraged to take part in the first annual “Strides for Safety 5K” to be held in Lincoln Park West in Jersey City on Saturday, September 10 at 10 a.m., Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise and the Board of Commissioners have announced.

Strides for Safety is a rallying call to raise awareness about what is being done to end gun violence and provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved. The event aims to help end gun violence by working together to make county a place where all can thrive, free from the fear of gun violence.

Strides for Safety is the rallying point to raise awareness about what is being done to end gun violence and provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved. More than a single event, the Strides for Safety is a dynamic platform to support and celebrate community organizations working to build peace and bring out the best of our city.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez and
nationally recognized speakers on the issue of gun violence will be in
attendance as runners take to the roads and trails through Lincoln Park West and then walkers follow them on to the course fifteen minutes later. More special guests are to be announced.

The fast, scenic, certified course will offer participants a chance to run a personal best while also showing their support for anti-gun violence initiatives being promoted on the state and federal levels. The race will start on the Lincoln Park West Wetlands and Nature Trail.

At 8 a.m., registration begins and coffee, bagels, and bananas will be served. Following that, the runners will begin at 10 a.m. and the walkers will begin at 10:15 a.m.

At 11:30 a.m., a program with special guest speakers and awards will take place. After that, guests can enjoy barbecue and entertainment at from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
