North Bergen has awarded a contract for Conlon Park improvements. Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Board of Commissioners approved the contract at a September meeting.

There were three bidders on the project, and the township awarded the contract to the lowest bidder. That bid belonged to Balitano Contracting Co., located at 289 Forest Road in Fort Lee.

The contract will be for $44,999. The funds for the contract will come from the 2022 budget, according to the resolution.

At the September meeting it was awarded at, Sacco described the gist of the project after resident questions. He said the park was located near the Recreation Center on Meadowview Avenue and the West View Towers off of Granton Avenue.

“It’s a small walking park,” Sacco said. “This has been there for years. It’s more of a passive sitting area.”

Sacco said the park was named after former deputy mayor Jimmy Conlon. At the ribbon cutting, Sacco said even boxer Joe Frazier showed up.

“We just stepped in because they didn’t have the certain funding for years,” Sacco said.

Sacco noted that the township was improving the park because it needed some renovations, but overall was already in “pretty good shape.”
