Two new Downtown skyscrapers approved in Jersey City
Two new skyscrapers in Downtown Jersey City were approved by the city’s Planning Board last month, which will be developed by New York City-based real estate firm Tishman Speyer. The towers will occupy two lots on 50 and 55 Hudson St., with the former getting a 42-story building, and the latter getting a 58-story building.

Hoboken Harvest Festival returns on Oct. 22
Hoboken and the Hoboken Business Alliance have announced the return of the Hoboken Harvest Festival for the first time in two years, taking place at the Pier A Park on Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m..
The festival will offer free activities for the youth, including a trackless train, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, hay maze, pony rides, live music, and more. The festival will also have a crafts fair and market along the waterfront walkway from First Street to Fourth Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..

Jersey City Medical Center to offer free breast mammograms
Jersey City Medical Center will be hosting a screening event on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., where uninsured Hudson County residents can receive free breast mammograms.
The event will be held at JCMC’s Women’s Health Center at Grove Street, located at 116 Newark Ave. on the 3rd floor in Jersey City. Those interested must call 201-915-2145 and register for their free breast mammograms.
Hudson County Fair extended a week
Attention all fun-lovers and thrill-seekers in Hudson County: after a spate of bad weather that shuttered the fair for several days, the 7th Annual Hudson County Fair has been extended. The fair, set up in James J. Braddock North Hudson County Park in North Bergen, will take place for additional week and will now run through a third big weekend.
Since Friday, September 30, the fair is open every day, now through Sunday, October 16. Weekends and Columbus Day the fair opens at 2 p.m. On weekdays it opens at 6 p.m.

West New York presents fall Yoga and Zumba
The West New York Division of Recreation’s Yoga Program will continue throughout the fall and winter.
This program will be at the Elementary School #6 (HLB) Gymnasium at 6200 Broadway starting Monday, October 17. Ages 17 and under will meet on Mondays, from 5 to 8 p.m. Ages 18 and up will meet Thursdays, 5 to 8 p.m. There will be offering a combination of Yoga and Zumba sessions with Coach Judy.
A valid birth certificate or U.S. passport and two valid and recently mailed proofs of residency required. No junk mail allowed and participants must live in West New York. Register at the Town Hall Recreation Office at 428 60th Sreet, Suite 7 from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants that have already registered this year do not need to do so again.
Call 201-295-5120 for all recreation information. Personal yoga mats required in order to participate.
Weehawken Day cancelled due to inclement weather
Due to the threat of inclement weather this past Sunday, October 2, Weehawken Day was cancelled, according to the township. And it won’t be rescheduled this year, meaning eager Weehawkenites will have to wait until 2023 for the festivities.

North Bergen’s new recreation center and library almost finished
North Bergen has nearly completed construction on its over $19.5 million new recreation center and library, which will also serve as a community center. Located downtown, the facility is set to open soon.

Youth Basketball Program registration open in West New York
The West New York Division of Recreation’s 2022 to 2023 Youth Basketball Program began accepting registration starting on Monday, October 3.
This free and fun program is open to West New Yorkers only, ages 7 to 14. The program begins in November and ends in March. Tryouts will take place on the first week of November at the West New York Middle School Gym. Further details will be provided in the near future.

North Bergen to hold annual Halloween Home Decoration Contest
The Halloween Home Decoration Contest will return this October for North Bergen residents, Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Board of Commissioners have announced. Residents are encouraged to dress up their house in its Halloween spookiest.
Participants could walk away with a prize. In years past has included a gift card for $100 for first place, with $75 going to second place and $50 to third.

West New York updates residents on Spotted Lanternfly infestation
West New York officials have provided another update to residents as to how they’re handling the Spotted Lanternfly infestation in town and across the county. This follows Mayor Gabriel Rodriguez and the Board of Commissioners defending the actions the town has taken taken to address the invasive species at a meeting in early September.
