New street nears completion in Union City

A new portion of Peter Street will now extend from Palisade Avenue to Hudson Avenue

A new street is nearly completed in Union City, Mayor Brian Stack has announced.

Located between Palisade Avenue and Hudson Avenue, Stack noted that a new portion of Peter Street would soon be open in a video message to the community on October 14.

Previously, Peter Street was only a one way road running east from Hudson Avenue to Pleasant Avenue. Now the new portion of the street from Palisade Avenue to Hudson Avenue will provide extra circulation for the uptown area of Union City, Stack said.

“When you come down Palisade Avenue, you’ll be able to make a left onto Peter Street,” Stack said. “It’s in between 32nd Street and 34th Street.”

According to Stack, the city bought a formerly rundown property and transformed its driveway into a nice street.

“We took an old eyesore building and turned it into a beautiful new street,” Stack said. “This was just an empty piece of land before. We created a brand new street and improved circulation in the uptown area of Union City.”

The street will feature new amenities including 28 new parking spaces, a small gazebo with seating, and new decorative lighting, as well as street trees, according to Stack. However, work on these things is still ongoing.

“If you get a chance, try to come up and see the new street,” Stack said. “It’s not complete yet, we still have to put in fencing and other things just to touch it up. But by the end of the month, we should have this street open.”

In addition, there are two dog runs that will be located on the street.

“We also put a dog run in for small dogs and medium-sized dogs,” Stack said. “We created 28 parking spaces, two dog runs, beautiful tree planting, decorative lighting will be installed as soon as we get it in, and just a nice new area for people to congregate, sit in the gazebo while their dog is in a dog run, and just have a good time.”

Stack ended the message by thanking his constituents for the honor to allow him and the Board of Commissioners to represent them.

“Pass by and take a look at our improvements,” he said, of the nearly complete new portion of Peter Street.
