Where to do early voting and submit mail-in ballots in Hudson County

Early voting is already underway in Hudson County and greater New Jersey, and mail-in ballots can be submitted for this year’s elections, ranging from the congressional midterms to local school board races. Here is what you need to know for this year’s voting options ahead of Nov. 8.

In-person early voting

In-person early voting began on Saturday, and will run until Nov. 6, two days before Election Day.

There are ten early voting locations in Hudson County, and while not every municipality has one, residents in Hudson County can vote for their specific ballot at any of the locations within the county borders.

All locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with Sunday voting hours open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • Bayonne:
    • Bayonne City Hall, Council Chambers, 630 Avenue C
  • Hoboken:
    • Hoboken City Hall, 1st Floor Conference Room (Newark Street Entrance)
  • Jersey City:
    • Jersey City Hall, Ground Floor Caucus Room, 280 Grove Street
    • Pershing Field Community Center, 816 Summit Avenue
    • Hank Gallo Community Center, 175 Lincoln Park
    • Moose Lodge, 60 West Side Avenue
  • Kearny:
    • Kearny Town Hall, 1st Floor Records Room, 402 Kearny Avenue
  • Union City:
    • Mobile Trailer, 16th Street & New York Avenue
    • Mobile Trailer, 28th Street & New York Avenue
  • West New York:
    • Sunshine Garden Community Room, 515 54th Street

Mail-in ballots

Voters who applied to receive mail-in ballots have three ways to return their ballots:

  • They can be mailed and must be postmarked on or before 8 p.m. on Election Day and be received by the county’s Board of Elections on or before six days after Election Day.
  • They can be placed in one of the county’s secure ballot drop boxes by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
  • They can be delivered to the county’s Board of Elections Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, located at Hudson County Plaza, 257 Cornelison Avenue, 4th Floor in Jersey City.

The following ballot drop box locations are:

  • Bayonne:
    • City Hall, 630 Avenue C.
  • East Newark:
    • Municipal Building, 34 Sherman Avenue, towards the corner of John Street & Sherman Avenue
  • Guttenberg:
    • Town Hall, 6808 Park Avenue, 100 feet towards 69th Street
  • Harrison:
    • Town Hall, 318 Harrison Avenue
  • Hoboken:
    • City Hall, 94 Washington Street, Newark Street location
    • Stevens University, Hudson Street & 6th Street
  • Jersey City:
    • Earl Morgan Library, 1841 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
    • New Jersey City University – John J. Moore Recreation Center, Culver Avenue & Westview Court
    • Saint Peter’s University, corner of Montgomery Street & John F. Kennedy Blvd.
    • Hudson County Plaza, 257 Cornelison Avenue
    • Jersey City Free Public Library, 14 Zabriskie Street
    • City Hall, 280 Grove Street
    • City Hall Annex, 1 Jackson Square.
  • Kearny:
    • Town Hall, 402 Kearny Avenue
  • North Bergen:
    • Town Hall, 4233 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Municipal Chambers Entrance
  • Secaucus:
    • Town Hall, 1203 Paterson Plank Road
  • Union City:
    • City Hall, 3715 Palisade Avenue
  • Weehawken:
    • Municipal Building, 400 Park Avenue
  • West New York:
    • Town Hall, 428 60th Street

What elections are taking place?

The top of the ticket in this year’s elections is the midterms for the House of Representatives, with the 8th, 9th and 10th Districts based in Hudson County up for election. The countywide officers of County Sheriff and Clerk are also up for election.

Municipalities including Bayonne, Hoboken, Jersey City and Secaucus are also holding elections for their local school boards. Lastly, Secaucus has three town council seats up for election.
