The Bayonne Public Library continues to offer “Tech Thursdays” through November. The program began in April of this year and offers weekly valuable technology lessons to those in need each month.
Residents are free to attend one or all of the library’s Tech Thursdays classes. The classes meet each Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
According to the city, the classes aim to teach how to set up and use a Gmail account, brush up on iPhone skills, and provide assistance figuring out Microsoft Excel. The classes are taught each week by Adult Services Librarian Bill Fischer.
On November 3, in the Gmail class, students will set up a Gmail account, learn how to send and receive emails and attachments, and learn good email security habits. As a prerequisite, students must know how to use a mouse and keyboard, and how to use a browser and navigate the world wide web.
On November 10, in the iPhones class, students will learn how to use an iPhone, a cellular telephone combined with a computer and an iPod. They will learn about calling and texting and about apps and how to add them. To get the most out of this class, students should have an iPhone.
On November 17, in the Microsoft Excel class, students will be introduced to Microsoft Excel, the most popular spreadsheet. Students will learn how to create a spreadsheet, how to enter data, and how to perform some basic operations with that data. Prerequisites require students to know how to use a mouse and keyboard and how to click on icons.
There will be no class on November 24 due to Thanksgiving.
Residents are free to attend one or all of the library’s Tech Thursdays classes. Advanced registration is preferred, but walk-ins will be accommodated if possible.
