Turkey Trot and Kids’ Fun Run on Thanksgiving

The Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Kids’ Fun Run will take place on the morning of Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, at Stephen Gregg Hudson County Park. At 9 a.m., the festivities will begin with the Fun Run, and at 9:30 a.m., the 5K will commence.

The event aims to fill the hole left by the annual traditional Thanksgiving Day football game between Bayonne High School and Marist High School, which was last played around 2001.

“Bayonne had an incredible Thanksgiving Day tradition with the Bayonne vs. Marist Football Game,” said Pete Amadeo. “It was a tradition like no other. That tradition will never be matched; however, we are hoping our Turkey Trot and Fun Run will begin a new Thanksgiving Day tradition for families and friends in Bayonne.”

Registration is now open. Residents can register online at

The registration fee is $25 for the 5K and $10 for the 1 Mile Fun Run. Residents interested in the event should register early to ensure they will receive a long sleeve Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Run t-shirt.

The Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Kids’ Fun Run will be organized by race director, Elvi Guzman of Winning Events Group. Winning Events Group has been conducting races and events, since 2013, in several neighboring cities.

Proceeds from the event will support the Division of Recreation Special Needs Sports Program and Division of Recreation Ability Day Program. Winning Events Group will also be making a donation to a special cause.
