Thanksgiving is a Time to be Thankful for Great Neighbors

Dear Editor:

Thanksgiving provides an excellent opportunity to reflect on all the blessings in my life, not the least of which is being part of a great community of people; specifically, my neighborhood.

I am thrilled to be associated with such a dedicated, determined group of people who go the extra mile to lend a helping hand to a neighbor in need. Every day, I get the opportunity to witness firsthand the sacrificial devotion of each member of my community. I see the kind-hearted thoughtfulness displayed by the members of my community, and that thoughtfulness – that concern, compassion, comfort, and commitment – is especially important — and is urgently needed — during these difficult times.

COVID-19 has impacted each of our lives, from the disruption of our daily routines to the loss of loved ones. The economic challenges that we now face as a nation have constrained our access to the necessities of life. Elevated inflation and soaring interest rates, high costs for petroleum products, the mounting cost of living, and the inadequately stocked shelves at the supermarkets are, regrettably, a part of life. Yet, during this austere, somber time of troubles, tribulation, turmoil, and tragedy, I see members of my community reaching out to their neighbors and providing the aid, support, and consolation that is so urgently needed.

Whether they help those at greater risk of infection, bring meals to neighbors devastated by the loss of a loved one, deliver groceries to those in need, or call to check on a neighbor they haven’t seen in a while, each member of my community represents a shining beacon of hope during this dark, dismal time.

And I am extremely thankful for that!
