Cheltenham Betting Odds & Predictions

There are 28 races in total at Cheltenham, including the Novices Hurdle, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and – of course – the Gold Cup.

Let’s see which best odds our tipsters have picked out for you:

Facile Vega to Win the Cheltenham Festival Opener (-125

While we don’t always like to back odds-on favorites, it’s hard to ignore Facile Vega right now.

Trained by Willie Mullins, Facile Vega was in stunning form right up until the 2023 Dublin Racing Festival. He was priced for that race even shorter than he’s priced for the Cheltenham festival opener – but after going unbeaten in his six previous career races, he came up short in Ireland.

A cause for concern?

Well, his price has doubled in time for the Cheltenham festival opener but this still makes him the big favorite for the opening contest.

There’s no doubt that his performance in Dublin was surprising – but we’re confident that it was just a blip (albeit a sharp one) not helped by how forcefully he was ridden in the first few moments.

Edwardstone to Win the Queen Mother Champion Chase (+250)

Edwardstone faces off against rival Energumene once more at Cheltenham, with both horses falling short in the trials in January to Editeur Du Gite.

However, Energumene was last year’s Champion Chase winner, so there’ll no doubt be lots of money placed on this horse.

Both camps, however, will be confident of success in the 2023 Champion Chase. If we’re honest, this is probably a case of either or. They’re both the joint-favorites, with some tipsters going for Energumene and others – like ourselves championing Edwardstone.

On that note, if you fancy Editeur Du Gite to trump them both when the real action starts, you can currently back him at his current odds of (+600) as the third favorite. We think that price is too long, however, and that it really will come down to a battle between the two favorites.

Stage Star to Place at the Turners Novices’ Chase (+800)

We like the look of Stage Star right now, who comes into the Turners Novices’ Chase event at odds of (+800) at the best gambling sites.

And while backing him to win the race might be a long shot, backing him to place is a sound investment.

He’s in good form, his trainer Paul Nicholls is very happy with him at the moment and he recently claimed victory over a field of 11. That provided enough evidence to suggest that he can perform well enough over this sort of distance.

Stage Star has appeared at Cheltenham once before, when he was pulled-up in 2022.

The bigger question mark is whether Cheltenham is really his track. But we’re excited to find out.

Galopin Des Champs to Win the Cheltenham Gold Cup (+163

The biggest event of them all at Cheltenham is the Gold Cup. Galopin Des Champs is this year’s odds-against favorite and he’s available at a solid price.

In fact, from what we’ve seen so far, there is no better odds-against favorite available at this year’s event.

You might need to hurry to get him at this price, though, with some bookies pricing him close to odds-on. What’s more, he will likely be the shortest-priced favorite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup since 2014.

Galopin Des Camps recently turned seven-years-old. He looked certain to win the Turners Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham festival last year before falling at the last with the finish line in sight.

Last April, he won by 18 lengths at Fairyhouse (the Gold Cup Novice Chase) and then triumphed at Punchestown.

And while he’s still what you’d call an emerging star, he’s our red hot top for this year’s Gold Cup.

Bet on Galopin Des Champs with the best odds at BetOnline

Constitution Hill to Win the Champion Hurdle (-275)

Constitution Hill’s price is pretty woeful right now.

A few months back, you’d have been able to lock him in at around (+100) but much has changed since then. He won the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and followed it up with an equally wide margin victory at the Christmas Hurdle just before Christmas.

Thanks to those tubthumping races, Constitution Hill has risen from 148 to 173. He is in seriously sparkling form and will take some beating at the Cheltenham festival.

Not just that but he’s trained by Nicky Henderson, who has bagged eight Champion Hurdle victories already. That’s a record he’ll be looking to extend even more on March 14.

The second favorite for the Champion Hurdle is State Man, who’s available at (+275).

Due to Constitution Hill’s extremely short odds, it’s hard to back him as the winner for this one. Instead, we’d recommend adding him to a parlay along with a few other short-priced favorites.

Different Ways You Can Bet on the Cheltenham Festival

One of the best things about the Cheltenham festival is that there are various bet types you can place. You can place a win bet, an each way bet, an exotic wager, or even a parlay.

If all this is fairly new to you, let’s take a quick look at the different Cheltenham bet types.

Win Bet

There’s nothing tricky about this bet because you’re simply betting on a horse to finish the race in first place. Nothing else needs to happen.

Unlike other sports, horse racing actually gives good value (sometimes) on this front because the favorite doesn’t always win.

In fact, research has shown that the favorite wins about 30% of the time, which means you can make a solid profit by betting on the second favorite or even outsiders.

Place Bet

A place bet at Cheltenham festival is essentially a cover bet. Instead of betting on a horse to win the race, you’re betting on it to come first or second.

Naturally, the odds for this bet are shorter, which means you won’t lock in as much profit if you backed a horse just to win a race.

But a place bet is useful for whenever you’re feeling a bit risk averse and you’re not 100% confident that your horse will win the race (but you are confident he will finish in the top 2).

Show Bet

A show bet is similar to a place bet. The difference is that your horse doesn’t need to come first or second – it can also come third.

Show bets come with marginal payoffs, which is why we largely recommend avoiding them unless the odds are decent and you feel the risk is worth it.

For example, you’d need to go fairly big with your stake in order to make a show bet worth it – but the risk is that your horse might not finish in the top 3.

Exotic Wagers

With an exotic wager, you’re betting on at least two horses.

You can bet on 2+ horses in the same race (such as the Gold Cup) or you can bet on 2+ horses across different races (such as the Gold Cup and the Cheltenham Festival Opener).

There are different types of exotic wagers, including exacta bets, which is when you choose two horses to finish first and second in the same race, and quinella bets, which is when you again choose two horses to finish first and second in the same race.

The difference this time is that the order doesn’t matter.

Exotic wagers can be a lot of fun and they can definitely boost your potential profits considerably. The trade-off is that they’re harder to get right than a simple win bet.

Parlays are always worth placing before the fun gets underway at the Cheltenham festival because they give you the chance to sit back and enjoy the action as it unfolds.

With a parlay, you’re adding different horses to the same bet. For example, you could add the winner of the first race of the day, the winner of the second race of the day and the winner of the final race of the day to the same bet.

Then, the excitement builds as the races start. If your horse wins the first race, it’s onto the second one.

Best Cheltenham Festival Odds: FAQs

How Can I Find the Best Cheltenham Festival Odds?

To find the best odds possible on any race, it’s a good idea to sign-up to various reputable bookmakers like MyStake and BetOnline before comparing their odds for different races and horses. This then means you’ll be placing your bets at the best odds guaranteed each time.

That said, the starting price in horse race betting is often very different to the odds that are on offer just before a race starts. So this is also something to be wary of.

What is Cheltenham Ante Post Betting?

Ante post betting is when you place a bet on a horse before the runners for a race have even been confirmed. For example, you could bet on Gaelic Warrior at Cheltenham 2024. The benefit for some sharp-eyed bettors is that ante post betting can represent a lot of value if you know your stuff.

Ante post betting is a bit of a dying thing in the world of horse race betting these days, however, with less and less bookmakers offering it.

How Many Races are There at Cheltenham?

There are 28 races altogether during the Cheltenham festival, including the Gold Cup and the Queen Mother Champion Chase. In order to keep up with all the action, we recommend signing up to a top-rated sportsbook like MyStake that lets you easily browse each race.

Betting on Cheltenham: Tips & Tricks

Do Your Homework: In other words, study the form and gather together as much information as you can on the horses and the tracks (in this case the Cheltenham Racecourse). Horse race betting is a total shot in the dark unless you know what you’re doing. You might get lucky once or twice but the only way to lock-in consistent profits is to do your homework hard.

Listen to Expert Tipsters: By finding the expert tipsters on sites like Twitter, you’ll have a better chance of succeeding at Cheltenham. Naturally, even the best tipsters don’t have a crystal ball and they can’t get everything right. But, if you can find a tipster who has a good track record and serious credibility, you can follow their bets and find the best odds and see where it takes you.

Look at the Jockey: Nevermind the latest betting odds. Is a horse ridden by a top jockey? Or is it ridden by a novice? Who the jockey is matters a lot when betting on horses. It sways the best odds and it can be the difference maker between your bet winning or losing.

Don’t Be Swayed by the Odds: The favourite will rarely be available at the best odds – and they might even be odds-on to win a race. But instead of seeking ‘value’ elsewhere – such as an outsider price at (+1600), it sometimes makes more sense to suck it up and back the favorite with big money when the form suggests he’ll win it at a canter.
