On Sunday, December 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. EST, the Cantigas Women’s Choir will host a concert titled “The Dance of Love.” The event takes its name from a quote by the poet Rumi: “Both light and shadow are the dance of love.” The performance will be two hours long and will feature a mix of lively and moving music. The opening song was written specifically for the choir in 2019 by Syrian composer Wassim Abraham. The concert will explore different dance rhythms, including the 7/8 meter from *Il Est Né*, a South African game song called *Nda Wana*, Piazzolla’s *Vareno Porteno* tango, and lively songs from Christmas and Hanukkah traditions like *Deck the Halls* and *Drey Dredelekh*.
The event will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 440 Hoboken Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey. The church is easily accessible, with parking available in the lot behind the building.
Tickets for the concert are priced at $20 for general admission, with a discounted rate of $10 for students and seniors. Online ticket sales will close at noon on Sunday, December 15, but tickets will still be available for purchase at the door, though only for cash payments.
The Cantigas Women’s Choir is dedicated to making its events accessible to everyone. If you need any special accommodations to attend the concert, you can contact them at ada@cantigas.net at least five days in advance.
This concert is supported by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, with additional funding from the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.
Make sure to join the choir for a wonderful evening filled with music and celebration of love, light, and shadow.
