CANDIDATE FOR JERSEY CITY WARD D
DANIELLE FREIRE ANNOUNCES 100% GRASSROOTS CANDIDACY
POWERED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS FOR JERSEY CITY WARD D
JERSEY CITY, NJ, Mar. 29, 2021 – DANIELLE FREIRE FOR CITY COUNCIL (NJ), Jersey City’s own Danielle Freire of the Heights announces her candidacy for Ward D. Danielle was born and raised in the Jersey City, Heights, of emigrated Ecuadorian parents. Members of the community are invited to join Danielle Freire on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 @ 7:30PM for the LIVE stream of her candidacy for Jersey City’s Ward D. Including a special musical performance by Mary J. Sansait, Founder and President of Inspired Artist Movement and Goddess Ntwrk, and community spotlights with Jenna Toulantis Leggio, Founder of Jersey City Women’s Collaborative and Summer Dawn Reyes, Founder of Jersey City’s own In Full Color.
“Having grown up in the Heights, I hold a unique perspective on how the community has changed in both good and bad ways. I want to empower my community to realize that OUR perspective is valuable and essential to policy making. Both my life and work experiences prepared me for this leap into politics, which I never imagined for myself. Frankly, there needs to be more “leaps” and there are many residents with talent, experience, and skills to contribute to their city. Together, we can promote a just and equitable city for all residents to thrive,” said Freire.
Freire’s campaign is 100% grassroots and powered by community members who are ready to see authentic representation on the City Council. Danielle’s candidacy is only a small part of a larger effort that is happening on a national scale. Danielle has worked in the nonprofit sector for close to a decade and has a focus on raising resources for social justice issues that impact marginalized communities.
“It’s exciting to have a young woman like Danielle Freire join the race for city council in Jersey City. Her personal story is one that reflects the great diversity and wealth of professional talent in our city and her candidacy speaks to the gifted generation of leaders entering the political landscape in the state,” Beverly Brown Ruggia exclaimed, progressive activist and Jersey City resident. “Danielle is exactly who we need to lead in the Heights and in Jersey City,” said Brown Ruggia.
“I believe we need more independent, grassroots campaigns that say “no” to corporate and real estate developer money. I’m inspired by the many progressive women of color who are running for local office just across the Hudson River, in New York City. It’s overdue for us in Jersey City and the time is now,” Freire explained.
