Just desserts?

According to a New York tabloid, business is picking up at Hoboken's Malibu Diner on 14th Street since it was named as the site of cash transactions between an associate of arrested Mayor Peter Cammarano and government informant Solomon Dwek.

The Daily News notes:

"Crime and diners are as American as apple pie.

"So many gangsters, crooked politicians and even would-be terrorists have been caught cooking up schemes in neighborhood greasy spoons it’s a wonder some of the places aren’t under full-time surveillance.

" 'It’s not the kind of publicity we want, but business has picked up since he was arrested,' said the diner’s manager, Katerina Babalis."

The rest of the article goes on to other cities and doesn't mention Hoboken again. But it's well-known around here that Hudson County politicians enjoy discussing strategy in local diners. In fact, sometimes they have made the mistake of failing to notice that our political columnist, Al Sullivan, was sitting in the very next booth.

When will they ever learn?
