The JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Senior Division got rolling with the Chargers facing the Bengals. The Bengals struck quickly as Mike Dopazo hit Jared Radil on a coast-to-coast bomb for a 6-0 Bengals’ lead. The Bengals’ defense got into the act as they forced a Chargers’ fumble in the end zone for a safety and an 8-0 advantage. For the next 15 minutes, both squads traded interceptions as the Chargers’ Malachi Smith and Jaime Betancur and the Bengals’ Mike Dopazo tallied picks.

The Chargers’ offense finally got on track when Jaime Betancur hauled in a TD toss from Smith, followed by a two-point dart from Smith to Jamarron Aquino to knot the bout at 8 all. At the start of the second half, the Bengals came out swimming as Dopazo unleashed another rocket to the sure-handed Eric Rivadeneira, making it 14-8, Bengals. Two plays later the Chargers answered with a 10-yard dash by Jan Patrick Egan to once again deadlock the game at 14-14. Just after the two-minute warning, the Bengals went on the march with Drew Radil, Anthony Minotto and Natalleyah Teixeira leading the way. They set up Jared Radil’s second TD grab to give the Bengals a 20-14 lead.

With time running out, the Bengals seemed to seal the victory when Mike Dopazo picked off another Chargers’ pass attempt but the Chargers’ defense held tough and battled the ball back to their offense with 27 ticks left on the clock. After an Ashley Solis run put the ball at the Bengals’ 15-yard line, the Chargers forced overtime with Alec Brandon Hawes’ TD catch.

The Chargers got right down to business during overtime with James Johnson pounding the ball to the Bengals’ 7-yard line. This set up Jaime Betancur’s TD and two-point grad for a 28-20 overtime advantage. The Chargers’ defense stood the OT test as they swarmed to the ball for a 28-20 overtime win.
