Funeral mass was offered Nov. 15 at Holy Rosary Church for Herbert “Herbie” Silvestri, 69, of Jersey City. He passed away Nov.11 at Jersey City Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Jersey City to the late Anthony and Josephine (DiPasquale) Silvestri, he was a lifelong resident of Jersey City. After graduating Dickinson High School in Jersey City, he entered into the U.S. Army. He proudly served in Vietnam from 1965 - 1966. He worked for Maxwell House Coffee Co., Hoboken until its closure. He then began a career as Housing Inspector with the City of Jersey City for over 25 years, retiring in 2010.

Herbie was a devout member of Holy Rosary Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, having served two terms as president. He previously served as co-chairman of Holy Rosary’s Italian Festival for many years and was in charge of Holy Rosary’s Bingo Program. In 2005, he was inducted into the Holy Rosary Hall of Fame for his decades of dedication and love for his parish. He was the husband of Rosemarie; father of Lisa Malaquias and her husband Vincent, Toni Anne Barbito and her husband Bill and Gina Silvestri; proud “Poppy” of Miranda, Joseph and Emily; brother of Anthony, Vincent and his wife Joanne, Joseph, Marie Girovasi and her husband Eddie, and of the late Maryanne and Donald. Services arranged by the Introcaso Angelo Funeral Home, Jersey City.
