Funeral services took place Feb. 24 for John Tomasin, 88. He passed away Feb. 20. A resident of West New York since early childhood, he graduated Memorial High School in 1942, then after serving 3 years in the Navy during WWII, including sea patrols and convoys in the North Atlantic. He attended John Marshall College and later was a cum laude graduate of Rutgers Law School in 1950.

Admitted to the bar in 1950 and US Supreme Court bar in 1956. He was a past President of the North Hudson Lawyers Club and directed its annual satire dinner shows. He practiced law for over 50 years. He served as Town Attorney in Guttenberg for 25 years, West New York for 4 years where he was also a municipal judge for 9 years. He also served 3 years as Hudson County Counsel. He was a commander for the Disabled American Veterans, local chapter #49 and Legal Adviser for 25 years to the DAV Judge Advocate.

He was a member of the executive committee of the Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen and its construction committee for the Harborage Nursing Home. He conducted litigation to prevent building of high rises on the waterfront in a movement to save the Palisades. He was an active elder member of the Trinity Reformed Church in West New York. John is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Ruth S. (nee: Schuler) Tomasin; father of Davis J. Tomasin, Neal J. Tomasin and his wife Michele and the late Gordon J. Tomasin; brother of Martin Tomasin; and grandfather of Kendal and Ryan. Services arranged by the Vainieri Funeral Home, North Bergen.
