Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Weehawken Free Public Library and Board of Trustees we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came together to support the 13th Annual Taste of Weehawken last month.

Our community has gathered at this special fundraiser each year to enjoy an extraordinary evening of exceptional food and drink shared with family, friends and neighbors. In that regard, this year was certainly no exception as we welcomed record numbers of guests and participants to the Taste.

But this year was unique in one very important way. In Weehawken, we take pride that through the continuing collective efforts of this amazing community we are able preserve our unique small town atmosphere in the midst of a great metropolitan area. When Hurricane Sandy struck last year, our community rallied together once again to support those affected by one of the worst natural disasters in recent history.

In the wake of this terrible disaster, the Library joins the countless local businesses, civic groups and organizations to help those neighbors and friends in their time of need and as such, proceeds of over $10,000 from this year’s Taste are being donated by the Library to the Weehawken & You Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

We extend our deep gratitude to our remarkable community for their support in this effort, especially the many superb restaurants and proprietors who participated in the Taste: 3 Forty Grill, All Kinds of Whoopie, Amanda’s, Ben & Jerry’s, Canamelao’s, Chart House, Clinton Social, Cremas Artisan Flavors, Dunkin’ Donuts (Palisade Avenue), Flaming Burrito, G.P.’s, Gladis Homemade Cakes, Houlihan’s on the Waterfront, Hudson Blue Bar & View, Hudson Cakery, Karma Kafe, Los Charrito’s Restaurant, Lusso Bar, Madison Bar & Grill, Masina Tratoria, Palermo’s Custom Cakes & Bakery, Pizza Villa, Porto Leggero, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Son Cubano, Tea NJ, and Touch of Spice. This year, we also welcomed back the talented chefs in training from the Weehawken High School/Culinary Arts Program.

Finally, we extend very special thanks to Hartz Mountain for once again donating the spectacular setting for the Taste; to Giannone Wine & Liquor Company for hosting the fantastic Wine and Beer Tasting tables as well as the design and donation of our Program; the Hudson Reporter for their advertising support; and of course the countless individuals and businesses who donated services, supplies and many hours to help made the evening such a success.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year for our 14th Annual Taste of Weehawken.

Sincerely,
Richard F. Turner
