Its playoff time for the JCC of Bayonne Indoor Flag Football Jr. Division and both the (5-7) Jets and the (3-9) Bears are eager to punch their ticket to face the (10-2) Colts in the championship game. Flailing away with their red hot offenses, the Bears held a slim 16-14 advantage after David Matos (2 TDs), Mariam Rasslan (2 expts) and Amir Asouti (2 expts) rang up scores to out duel Anthony Baez (1 TD), Jack Kruchkowski (1 TD), and Aviv Talmor (2 expts) as the Jets fell behind by 2 points. Taking advantage of the Bears’ zone defense, the Jets hit the pedal on the ground as Baez raced in for two TDs followed by 2 point conversions by Kruchkowski and Christian Benson as the Jets built a 30-16 lead. Looking to stretch their lead further, the Jets went back on the attack but two key defensive stops by the Bears’ Louai Asouti ended the Jets scoring threat. With the ball back in their hands, the Bears’ offense struck paydirt as David Matos reeled in a full court bomb to make it 30-22, Jets. Feeling the heat from the surging Bears, the Jets revved up their offense as Aviv Talmor scampered 20 yards for a TD while Christian Benson added a two point sweep. Down 38-22, the Bears fell prey to a heads up defensive play by the Jets’ Anthony Baez who turned a tipped ball into 6 points with a five yard interception return to expand the Jets’ lead to 44-22. Not willing to raise a white flag yet, the Bears unleashed another long distance TD dart to Matos before adding a two point pass to Amir Asouti and cutting the Jets’ lead to 44-30. Needing to land one last body blow to seal their victory, the Jets turned to Anthony Baez who once again answered the call with a 10 yard TD grab sending his squad to the “Championship” game with a 50-30 victory.
