Funeral services were held Jan. 16 for Richard Francis Lennon, 99, formerly of Weehawken. He passed away Jan. 11, at Care One Woodcrest Health Center, New Milford, surrounded by his family. Born in New York City to the late John and Augusta Lennon, Richard lived in Weehawken for over 50 years. He was a decorated veteran of the army serving during WW II and receiving two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He began his work life as a longshoreman on the N.Y. city docks before joining the Weehawken Fire Dept. where he served over 35 years retiring as a Deputy Fire Chief in 1983. His famous quote was “Firemen can do anything!” Richard was also a proud member of Disabled American Vets and the Weehawken Elks, as well as an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary (nee Pandolfi), his sons Michael and Richard and his wife Joanne.
