Union City and Weehawken schools closed, others have delayed opening

'Snowvember' storm shut part of river road on Thursday, downed trees

Downed trees on Ninth Street, Hoboken, N.J., Thursday, November 15.

Weather conditions were so bad on Thursday night — and snow accumulations so unexpected — that traffic was snarled, some drivers left their cars, buses from the Port Authority terminal to New Jersey were canceled close to 6 p.m., and people in upper Manhattan walked across the George Washington Bridge to get home. The Willow Avenue bridge between Weehawken and Hoboken closed, as did much of River Road from Weehawken to Fort Lee.

Some trees were still down on Friday morning, although a warm rain melted some of the snow.

As a result, all of the schools in our coverage area had delayed openings on Friday, Nov. 16, except for Weehawken and Union City, which were closed.

Hoboken, Secaucus, Bayonne, Jersey City, West New York, and North Bergen had delayed openings.
