North Bergen man faces criminal charge in alleged fatal crash

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office issued a press release stating that a 19-year-old North Bergen man was arrested for a charge of Death by Auto. The report alleges that he was involved in a collision in September which caused the death of a passenger in a vehicle he had been driving on Westside Avenue in North Bergen.

North Bergen Police responded to the scene on Sept 20 at about 9:40 p.m. Officers found a 2013 Infiniti had allegedly collided with a tractor trailer on Westside Ave. According to the police report, the Infiniti was allegedly travelling at an excessive rate of speed when it struck the tractor trailer that was pulling out of a Westside Ave driveway.

Both the driver and the passenger, identified as 36-year-old North Bergen resident William David, were transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where they were initially listed in critical condition. On September 23, David was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and remained at the scene.

The driver of the Infiniti turned himself in without incident on Dec 3 to members of the Fatal Collision Unit at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City. Officers transported the driver to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.

The driver made his first court appearance in Jersey City on Dec 4 to face the charge.
