Jersey City Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, provided thanksgiving cheer early this year by offering a thanksgiving luncheon to the homeless last week, coordinated by the hospital’s Mental Health and Social Services (MASSH). Volunteers from various JCMC departments and the Hudson County Board of Social Services served 180 homeless individuals with a traditional turkey dinner. Guests received care packages which contained socks and hygiene products. The meals and giveaways were fully funded by MASSH. Attendees also contributed to the Community Gratitude Tree poster, with notes of what they are grateful for.
Additionally, 350 families from Hudson County received bags filled with non-perishable food, including various Goya products, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce donated by Lord Abbett, turkey pans donated by Imperial Dade, and $25 Butterball Turkey gift cards from the Jersey City Medical Center Foundation to help families purchase turkeys or other grocery items for Thanksgiving. Lord Abbett, JCMC Foundation, JCMC Community Outreach Committee worked together to stuff the bags with all the donated items.
