Bayonne firefighters extinguish porch fire on West 20th Street

No injuries reported, and the blaze is not considered suspicious

The fire broke out on a porch on West 20th Street.

Bayonne firefighters took care of a blaze on West 20th street in only ten minutes.

At 11:03 a.m., the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to 85 West 20th Street for a reported structure fire, according to Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

Units found fire on the second floor front porch of the two and a half story, two-family home. Chief Weaver said firefighters used a handline to extinguish the blaze, which was declared under control in approximately ten minutes.

Damage was contained to the porch area, Weaver said. The Bayonne Building Department allowed all occupants to return home. A fire investigation was completed. However, the blaze is not considered suspicious.

No injuries were reported.

“Our firefighters acted swiftly and decisively to contain this fire to the porch area and prevented its spread into the residence,” Weaver said.
