Bayonne man arrested after allegedly stabbing another man’s face

The alleged incident happened near 31st and Broadway


Joseph Matusaitis, 53, was arrested by the Bayonne Police Department after an incident in which he allegedly stabbed another man’s face.

Matusaitis was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Matusaitis was taken into custody at 2:43 a.m. from the area of 31st Street and Broadway. He was transported to Hudson County Jail.

Officers responded to a residence in the area of 31st Street and Broadway on a report of a male that had been stabbed in the face.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male, later identified as Matusaitis, seated on a bench outside the residence. Other officers entered the residence to ascertain the condition of the victim and begin an investigation.

Inside, they met with the 48-year-old male victim who displayed facial lacerations which he advised were allegedly caused by Matusaitis using a kitchen knife.

Matusaitis was subsequently placed under arrest. The victim was transported to the Bayonne Medical Center.

The male victim’s condition is not clear. The above charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
