North Bergen celebrates “Read Across America”

Mayor Nicholas Sacco read a children’s story to a room full of engaged kids and their parents to kick off the uptown library’s “Read Across America” event on Tuesday, March 1.

Then it was time for Bubble Mania, a fun-ducational presentation by entertainer Casey Carle, who delighted the kids with bizarre bubblecraft and interesting facts. The event was designed to encourage and promote reading.

Joining the mayor were Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Julio Marenco, and Allen Pascual. Library Executive Director Sai Rao coordinated the event with the dedicated library staff. Afterward everyone received free treats and a fresh donut and hot dog from a food truck.

Ukrainian Community Center in Jersey City accepting donations for Ukraine support

The Ukrainian Community Center in Jersey City is accepting donations and humanitarian aid for Ukraine following the Russian invasion of the country.

The group is accepting donations on Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m.. They will accept communication devices, drones, tactical gear, blankets, personal care, flashlights, medical supplies and canned foods/non-perishable foods.

WNY summer job applications open

The West New York Division of Recreation has announced that applications for its 2022 Summer Employment Program will be accepted until Friday, May 20.

Applicants must live in West New York and be at least fourteen years of age. Applicants must also present a valid New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission ID and Social Security Card.

Multiple positions are available including Summer Camp Counselor, Pool Staff, Parks, Public Works, Parking Enforcement and more. All applications will be reviewed and considered. Applying does not guarantee employment.

Jersey City Theatre Center hosts stage reading of “The Bluebottles”

Jersey City Theatre Center is hosting a live-streamed staged reading of “The Bluebottles” from South African playwright Deborah Vieyra on Saturday, March 12, at 12:00 p.m.. Tickets are available for $10 at www.jctcenter.org and www.seetickets.us/jctcenter.

Hoboken Historical Museum presents “Adjacent” Upper Gallery Exhibit

The Hoboken Historical Museum is opening “Adjacent,” their new Upper Gallery exhibit by Liz Ndoye and Ibou Ndoye. The show runs from March 6 to May 1, with an opening reception on March 6 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the museum.

Free rabies clinic in North Bergen

There will be a free rabies clinic in North Bergen on March 15 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the EMS Building at 1814 43rd Street.

WNY soccer registration open

The West New York Division of Recreation has announced that registration is open for the 2022 Spring Soccer Program. Registration will be accepted until Friday, April 22. This program is available to all West New Yorkers, ages six through 18.

A valid Birth Certificate or valid U.S. passport and two valid and recently mailed proofs of WNY Address are required in order to register. No junk mail allowed and participants must live in WNY. Register  at the Town Hall Recreation Office, 428 60th Street, Suite 7 from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
