A 17-year-old male from Bayonne has been charged with committing numerous previously-reported armed robberies involving a handgun, according to the Bayonne Police Department.
The juvenile was taken into custody on April 1 at 7 p.m. from the area of West 29th Street, authorities said.
Most recently, on March 31 at 9:05 p.m., a 30-year-old male victim reported that he was robbed at gunpoint in the area of 27th Street and Avenue A.
According to the victim, while walking on West 27th Street, a male later identified as Juvenile 1 called out to him. As the victim turned around, he was confronted by the juvenile who brandished a handgun and demanded the victim turn over the contents of his pockets, police said.
Juvenile 1 then fled with the victim’s cell phone which also contained numerous credit cards in a card holder attached to the cell phone case. A short time later, the victim received notification that $965.00 had been transferred from his bank account to an unfamiliar account via a mobile payment transfer application, according to authorities.
On Nov. 12, 2021, between 9 and 9:30 p.m., a 57-year-old male victim reported that he was robbed at gunpoint by an unknown male, later identified as Juvenile 1.
According to the victim, while in the area of 30th Street and Avenue A, Juvenile 1 approached him and brandished a handgun, demanding the victim to give him any money he had on his person. The victim complied and the juvenile fled the area, police said.
Also on that day at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers were approached by a 23-year-old victim outside of headquarters. The victim reported that he had just been robbed at gunpoint in the area of West 31st Street by an unknown male, later identified as Juvenile 1.
According to this victim, while in the area of West 30th Street, he was approached by Juvenile 1 who brandished a handgun, pointed it at the victim’s head, and demanded the victim to turn over his possessions on his person. According to authorities, the victim complied and Juvenile 1 fled the scene with the victim’s cell phone, shoulder bag, and wallet that contained cash, bank cards, and identification.
The Bayonne Police Department Detective Bureau immediately initiated an investigation into the reported robberies and were able to identify Juvenile 1 as the actor.
Once Juvenile 1 was taken into custody, detectives were able to recover from within the juvenile’s residence a defaced semi-automatic handgun loaded with a single 9mm body armor penetrating round, additional 9mm body armor-penetrating rounds loosely stored, a quantity of cocaine suitable for distribution, various other item of evidence linking him to the robberies, and numerous bank cards belonging to various unknown individuals.
