Dear Editor:
Monarchy and America’s current system of business monopoly go hand in hand. Monopoly is the economic system of kingship. Small enterprise is the economic system of democracy.
Monarchy is banking, commerce, and industry acting like predatory animals with ungodly interest rates, unfriendly takeovers, false advertising, shipping jobs overseas to make more profits, and killing unions. Reasonable regulation to curb the appetites of Robber Barons is democracy.
When Congress gridlocks itself in teenager-style cat fights, would-be kings rub their hands in delight. Republicans and Democrats take turns obstructing legislation so it will allow the President, now an elected king, to step in and make laws instead.
Curriculum specified on the national level is monarchy. Curriculum designed by local boards is democracy.
Senators and President asserting special privileges of “absolute immunity” to make them above the law is monarchy. Everyone in all classes and levels of government having the same privileges and the same vulnerabilities under the law is democracy.
Sports leagues allowing money to outright purchase championships is monarchy and aristocracy (super wealth in the hands of the few). Loyalty to team and city and golf tour is democracy.
