On Thursday, July 11, 2024, U.S. Marshals and the New York/New Jersey Fugitive Task Force arrested Freddie Castro in Kissimmee, Florida.
Castro faces multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and aggravated assault.
He is currently detained at the Osceola County Corrections Department, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Jersey City Heights Shooting Incident Details and Victims
The shooting incident took place on the evening of Sunday, April 7, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m. in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street in Jersey City Heights.
The Jersey City Police Department responded to reports of shots fired and discovered two victims with apparent gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.
Freddie Posey, a 25-year-old resident of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m.
A 30-year-old woman from Jersey City was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Additionally, a third victim, a 24-year-old man from Jersey City, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark with a non-life-threatening injury.
Previous Arrests in Jersey City Heights Shooting
Before Castro’s arrest, two other people were also arrested for the shooting. Darren Esteves, a 20-year-old from Jersey City, was caught on June 23, 2024, by police in Orlando, Florida.
Esteves is currently held at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.
He faces similar charges to Castro, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and aggravated assault.
Earlier, on April 24, 2024, Aaliyah Rivera, a 23-year-old from Jersey City, was arrested by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Rivera is charged with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder. She is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
