On Sunday, November 3, kids have a fantastic opportunity to dive into Puerto Rican traditions with the 2Q Children’s Program: Bomba and Plena. This event is all about learning Afro-Puerto Rican drum and dance in a fun and interactive way. It’s open to children who are eager to explore these rich cultural rhythms, so come join us for a lively and engaging experience!

Event Details

This program is designed to teach kids Afro-Puerto Rican music and dance traditions, specifically La Bomba and La Plena, guided by Segunda Quimbamba, a local group with over 30 years of experience. Students will learn dance steps, drum rhythms, and even sing in a call-and-response style. Classes are held every Sunday from November 3 to December 15, and the program wraps up with a joyful Neighborhood Parranda on the final day.

The program is split into two parts:

  • Plena Dance Classes: 1:00 – 1:30 PM (Ages 6-11)
  • Plena Percussion Classes: 1:30 – 2:00 PM (Ages 7-13)

There’s even a special combo offer if your child wants to learn both dance and drumming!

All classes will take place at the Nimbus Arts Center, located at 329 Warren Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302. Nimbus is an ADA-compliant venue, and you can easily get there by car or by PATH train. Limited street parking is available in Downtown Jersey City, but there are also paid parking options.
