Monty Hall is hosting a special screening of You Got Gold: A Celebration of John Prine, a concert film recorded in October 2022 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The movie brings together Prine’s friends, family, and many well-known musicians who share stories and perform his classic songs. Artists like Bonnie Raitt, Brandi Carlile, Tyler Childers, Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yoakam, Jason Isbell, Bob Weir, and others appear throughout the film, honoring Prine’s long-lasting influence as one of America’s greatest songwriters. The evening will be hosted by WFMU DJ Joe McGasko from Surface Noise, and all proceeds go directly to supporting WFMU.

The event takes place at WFMU Radio’s Monty Hall, located at 43 Montgomery Street in downtown Jersey City, only a short walk from the Exchange Place PATH station. It’s an in-person, all-ages event. Doors open at 3:30 PM, and the screening begins at 4 PM EST on December 14 as part of WFMU Film Night.

Tickets cost $19. Guests are also encouraged to bring unexpired, non-perishable food items for WFMU’s December food drive. Donations will be delivered to the Triangle Park Community Center in Jersey City. The items most needed include:

  • Small containers of fruit or applesauce

  • Pull-top cans of soup

  • Tuna or other proteins

  • Small or medium containers of creamy peanut butter and jelly

  • Chicken, beef, or vegetable ramen packets

  • Pull-top cans of beans

  • Chewy granola bars

  • Individual cereal packs

  • Baby food and formula

  • Diapers

  • Toiletries

(No glass containers, please.)

It’s a simple night: a good film, good people, support for WFMU, and a chance to help neighbors in need while celebrating the music and life of John Prine.
