The City of Hoboken announced a spring paving initiative that will cover more than two miles of roadway across a minimum of 50 blocks throughout the city. Construction is scheduled to start in April 2026 and continue through early June.
The effort falls under the city’s Complete Streets and Resurfacing Program. Hoboken will coordinate the work with PSE&G and the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) to restore streets affected by recent underground infrastructure construction.
- Hoboken will mill and pave more than 2 miles of roadway covering at least 50 blocks beginning in April and continuing through early June 2026.
- The project is a partnership involving the City of Hoboken, PSE&G, and the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) following underground utility improvements.
- Work will include Vision Zero safety improvements, refreshed high-visibility crosswalk striping, and curb ramp accessibility upgrades.
Utility Infrastructure Improvements Preceded Roadway Restoration
The roadway work follows several projects completed beneath city streets. These projects upgraded drinking water mains and pressure valves, replaced gas mains, and expanded storm sewer capacity, intended to reduce flooding.
Although those improvements addressed underground systems, the construction activity left road surfaces in poor condition in multiple areas following the winter season. The paving program will repair those streets.
Vision Zero Safety Measures And Accessibility Upgrades Included
Alongside resurfacing, Hoboken will add street safety improvements connected to the city’s Vision Zero initiative, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
The work will include high-visibility striping to refresh crosswalks and roadway markings. Crews will also install curb ramp upgrades at several locations, improving accessibility for people navigating intersections and sidewalks.
