The 2025–2026 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings, released on August 19, 2025, reviewed nearly 24,000 public high schools nationwide and ranked about 18,000. Schools with fewer than 15 seniors were excluded from the analysis.
The scoring system placed the greatest weight on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) performance, which made up 40% of each school’s score and measured both participation and exam results. Another 30% of the score came from graduation rates and state test performance, while 10% reflected the outcomes of low-income, Black, and Latino students. Additional measures, including curriculum breadth and overall student outcomes, were also taken into account.
All information used in the rankings came from the 2022–2023 school year and was analyzed in partnership with RTI International, a global research organization.
