The City of Hoboken held its annual Green Fair on Saturday, October 4, led by Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla, the Hoboken Green Team, and the Department of Climate Action & Innovation. The event brought together local entrepreneurs, organizations, and residents to celebrate progress in sustainability and environmental awareness.
Through the city’s Green Business Recognition Program, 16 businesses were honored for their efforts to protect the environment, which included actions like reducing waste, recycling, using energy-saving lights, and cutting down on packaging by buying in bulk. Many also support environmental causes in Hoboken and beyond.
Each business received a certificate, a green decal to display in their store, a digital version for online use, and recognition on the city’s website. The awards show how local businesses are helping Hoboken become a greener city through simple, steady changes.
- Local businesses were honored for their ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
- Each participant received official recognition for helping reduce waste, improve energy use, and support green practices.
- Young innovators shared climate projects funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, introducing creative ways to support environmental goals.
Youth Projects Bring Fresh Ideas to Climate Action
For the first time, the Green Fair also featured young people supported by the Youth Climate Action Fund, a program backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The fund gave $85,000 to 11 youth-led projects working on local climate issues.
Several projects were presented at the fair, focusing on hands-on solutions such as reducing plastic in waterways, promoting composting to cut food waste, teaching safe battery recycling, and using 3D printing to support clean energy education.
