Hoboken Announces Pride Month Celebrations
Hoboken is set to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month with a variety of events throughout June, organized by the City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Pride Advisory Committee.
The festivities aim to promote inclusiveness, acceptance, and community support for LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Launch of Hoboken Pride Advisory Committee
The Hoboken Pride Advisory Committee was established through an Executive Order signed by Mayor Bhalla earlier this year.
The committee’s mission is to promote inclusiveness for all Hoboken residents, workers, and students by raising awareness of unique issues faced by LGBTQIA+ members, proposing solutions, and fostering a culture of acceptance and affirmation of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.
Hoboken Pride Begins with Painting and Flag Raising Events
The celebrations kick off on Thursday, May 30, with Pride Painting at ResilienCity Park (1120 Jefferson St.) from 9 am to 11 am.
A professional team will lead the painting efforts, creating a beautiful sidewalk painting to celebrate pride. Onlookers and allies are welcome to join and show their support.
Later that morning, at 11:30 am, the official Pride Flag Raising ceremony will take place at Hoboken City Hall (94 Washington St.).
The Hoboken Pride Committee members will speak, marking the start of the Pride celebrations.
Weekend Pride Activities: Crosswalk Painting and Block Party
On Sunday, June 2, from 7 am to 1 pm, contribute to the annual re-painting of the Pride Crosswalk at Newark & Washington Streets.
Registration is required, and participants must be 14 years or older.
Following the painting, the City will host a block party from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the same location.
The party will feature family activities, a bouncy house, games, and blessings from the Hoboken Clergy Coalition.
Food will be available for purchase.
Puppies for Pride Parade and Drag Story Hour
Saturday, June 8, at 4 pm, brings the Puppies for Pride Parade and Yappy Hour at Church Square Park.
Dress your pup in Pride gear and join the parade for a chance to win prizes. A happy hour with drink specials will follow at a local pub.
On Wednesday, June 12, at 10 am, Shipyard Park will host a Drag Story Hour with Harmonica Sunbeam and the Hoboken Public Library.
This fabulous story hour is suitable for children and their caregivers.
