Marks Denies Trade Request Rumors
In his first public comments since the trade, Marks explained that the deal came together quickly and was finalized before Bridges even knew about it.
“I think it’s been reported that Mikal wanted to leave or requested a trade,” Marks said. “That could not be further from the truth.”
The Nets accepted the Knicks’ offer, which included four unprotected first-round picks and a pick swap, believing it was the best move for the organization’s future.
The night the agreement was reached, SNY’s Ian Begley reported that Bridges’ side was prepared to push for a trade to the Knicks.

“I think when you look at doing the deal, we did with the Knicks, that was really only possible by controlling our own destiny a little bit more, where we get our picks back from Houston.”
Marks emphasized the importance of looking ahead and planning for the future. “We’re always looking two, three, four years ahead to try and navigate a pathway,” he said.

“We were upfront with Nic and told him the pathway of the team,” Marks said.

“When you have an offer like we did from New York, I think that sets us up on a very, very clear direction and pathway to continue to build this team for sustainable success,” he said.
