This weekend PATH trains will resume its normal, pre-Sandy weekend schedule between Newark and the World Trade Center (WTC) stop in New York. This line, which makes stops at Journal Square, Grove Street, Newport, and Exchange Place – all in Jersey City – was partially restored several weeks ago, when trains began operating around the clock during the week. However, weekend service, which was disrupted as a result of Hurricane Sandy last fall, has remained out of commission until now.
Crews from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have been using weekends to repair hurricane-related damage to the PATH system, particularly at the Exchange Place and WTC stations. Both stations experienced significant damage from salt water that corroded signals and other equipment.
The resulting service disruptions to the PATH system have created headaches for New Jersey residents who work, shop, and socialize in lower Manhattan.
