HOBOKEN -- After much speculation from members and from residents in Hoboken, the Sky Club fitness center in the southwest corner of town posted a letter on its Facebook page late on Monday explaining why police and firefighters were called there in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

During the party, according to the letter, the Fire Department had to free people from an elevator that broke down and got stuck. The department then began taking a head count and determined the club was over capacity.

Around that time, "There was an altercation inside the club that led to a man having a seizure," the letter reads.

A commenter on a Reporter story from yesterday paints a more detailed picture of the incident, although the veracity of the claims has not been verified by the newspaper.

Customers have been posting comments on the Facebook page asking for the club to stop allowing these types of parties.

The letter posted by the club also says that the club is back open.

We have no cops on the street because our mayor hates our police officers and still blames the chief for her father in law's death. She reduced the force by a third and continues to hire more firemen and put in bike lanes and spend the money she should be spending on us on other things nobody really needs. Aside from the concert there was the party and fight at the Sky Club and back up had to be called from 5 other jurisdictions and at the same exact time the gun shots went off in the HHA while all available Hoboken men were at Sky Club. Call the mayor and tell her to put more cops on the street and stuff like this might not happen. You can control our future, you just have to make that first step.

I am glad that the number of police officers is reduced, I have never been more amazed at how often I see them standing around doing nothing, hanging out at local restaurant just talking, and simply refusing to respond to citizen needs and complaints. The best were the days before the lights were put in by the PATH and you would see HPD standing there not doing a thing to direct traffic. Yes, HPD, not PA, or otherwise. I think putting the police on notice that they are not above reproach is the perfect thing to do - do you job or we will just figure out ways to make things happen without you.

Nathaniel

When your house is getting ransacked by thieves while you sleep and you fear for your life and the response times weren't fast enough, remember what you said here, deal?

Officers hanging out in restaurants is called "having lunch" or "having dinner".

nj.com reporting that guns fired, police needed to break up large unruly crowds and six arrested on Saturday night in the HHA.

Have we come to accept this as normal ?
