To the Editor:
The Bayonne Elks Lodge 434 would like to thank all WHO attended, supported, or donated to ITS annual Labor Day Weekend Army of Hope BBQ. Through our combined efforts on September 9, at the New Jersey State Elks’ picnic, we were able to donate $3,600 to our NJ wounded and fallen soldiers fund that benefits military families of fallen, wounded, and deployed soldiers. Also on that day, our Veterans’ Committee and Motorcycle Committee each donated $500 to our State Homeless Veterans Fund. There are more than 3,000 homeless veterans in the State of New Jersey alone. The Elks help to find them affordable housing and set them up with furniture and “welcome home kits” consisting of bedding, towels, and household items that we daily take for granted. I especially would like to thank the Bayonne Elk members who stepped up in my absence as I underwent emergency surgery the day before our Labor Day event. For the first time in six years, I was unable to attend and participate in this fundraiser. However, I rested easily as I knew this matter was being cared for with the dedication only a Bayonne Elk has. Thank you one and all.
