On Saturday, Oct. 5, Alzheimer’s New Jersey will host its annual “Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s at Liberty State Park in the North Cove field area behind the ferry parking lot.

Participants of the walk are encouraged to wear purple to show support for the over 600,000 New Jersey residents impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. After the walk, there will be refreshments, music, and door prizes. Dogs are also welcomed to join in all the festivities, as long as they remain on a leash.

There is no registration fee for the walk, however, fundraising is encouraged and vital to the success of the event. The first 500 registered walkers will receive a promotional tote bag and walkers who raise $50 or more will receive a complimentary event T-shirt. 100 percent of the funds raised from the walk will support individuals and families in New Jersey affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Giselle Bellas, accomplished singer, songwriter, actress, advocate and ambassador for Alzheimer’s New Jersey, will be in attendance as the honorary walk chairman and host of the event. Giselle lost her grandmother to Alzheimer’s disease and is an active supporter of Alzheimer’s New Jersey.

The walk begins in Liberty State Park, 1 Audrey Zapp Dr., Jersey City, Saturday, Oct. 5 with registration: 8:30 a.m. Kickoff Rally: 9:30 a.m. Walk: 10 a.m.

Over 600,000 people in New Jersey are affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias, including 180,000 individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and 448,000 family caregivers.
