Residents react to developer’s petition for gondola

Bayonne residents reacted with vigor to a Bayonne Community News report that developers of an aerial gondola connecting Bayonne to Staten Island have asked for public support.

“I was born and raised in Bayonne,” Jeffrey Mazanowski commented on Facebook. “Not living there these days, but it would be a nice touch, but I guess a lot of people will have their opinions on this.”

“I think a monorail would be better and faster!” Matt Krin wrote. “How about some hovercraft while we are at it?”

Peg Garvey called it “ridiculous.”

Anthony D’Amico is head coach of Bayonne’s recreational wrestling program, and a former candidate for the Bayonne Board of Education.

“NO THANK YOU!!!,” he wrote. “This will become a benefit for Staten Island commuters and a disaster for Bayonne commuters. Houses line the tracks along 7th, and I doubt any of those residents would want the structure for this gondola in their backyards. Unless this project comes with a guarantee structural budget impact of like 30 mil a year to the city of Bayonne, where we can then stabilize property taxes and turn around and invest in our schools and community properly, I say no thanks.”
